I’m Not Doom Scrolling, I’m Just Reading the News!

Why We Do What We Do.

The title of this blog is a very real thing said in our house on a daily basis. My wife and I have always been avid news consumers. In part, this was an occupational necessity, but also, a curiosity that we've enjoyed together as a couple. Many days of our pre-children-lives would consist of watching national news programs in bed. This may not seem like the most romantic way to spend a day with your spouse, but we’ve never run out of things to talk about after all of these years!

Lately, reading the news (especially news curated through social media) feels ominous to anyone interested in solving the climate crisis, the perseverance of Democracy, protecting our children from gun violence, and the preservation and extension of civil rights for all people in our country. From police brutality to the erasure of women’s rights, every story we read anymore just feels more like Doom Scrolling than “reading the news.”

Previously, we had believed that being knowledgeable about the issues and voting accordingly would be enough to deliver a better world to our kids than the one we grew up in. Boy, were we wrong! Frustration became the result of that realization. I mean, we would never be the people that would run for public office, nor the kind of people that could afford to make ginormous cash donations to politicians promising us progressive policy agendas. So, the question became, what can we do to make the world a better place?

Barring being bitten by a radioactive spider and becoming a superhero overnight, we knew that we had to figure out how to, at least, try to help fix the problems. That’s pretty much when we understood what we could do. In a conversation, my wife and I were discussing how our government has pretty much left the solution to the world’s problems in the hands of the private sector. So, what did two people with careers in PR/Marketing/Media do? We took our collective experience, and funneled that knowledge into promoting companies that sought to answer the call for generating progressive solutions. That’s right, we started a business!

The best part about this business? We don’t have to be superheroes! We’re leaving that part up to you. We are looking for companies that aim to provide new solutions to real-world problems, and we’ll make sure that the world knows all about your efforts. We want partnerships with folks who are audacious enough to address these difficult issues. Partners, who like us, hope to leave a better future for our kids. As we like to say around here, “You can save the world. We’ll let them know.” Maybe then we’ll be able to go back to just reading the news, and leave all of that doom scrolling behind us.
