We’re Jessica and Bryan Shein. We’re a married couple with 35 years of collective experience in public relations, marketing, and broadcast media. We live in Central Virginia with our two boys and our 15-year-old dog.
We run this business out of our three-bedroom home with a small carbon footprint. We have worked for major broadcast corporations and public relations firms from across the country. We started Sunshine PR because we’re concerned about the world we’re leaving our kids. We realize that the only way that we can best help the world is to use our skillsets to promote progressive companies.
We’re not looking for clients; we're looking for partners who are working to provide progressive solutions to modern-day problems.
We offer specialized expertise in public relations, marketing, crisis communications and content creation.
With over 35+ years of experience, we are here for all of your communications needs.
For nearly 15 years, Jessica has worked in communications and public relations, working in various industries including nonprofit organizations, tech, healthcare, and social and human rights issues, as well as B2B, B2C, and legal PR.
She has developed strong relationships with members of the media and secured coverage for her clients in
The New York Times, Bloomberg, The BBC, The Washington Post,
NPR, The AP,
and The Guardian.
Jessica has also worked on advocacy and policy campaigns including the passage of the 2021 Virginia Reproductive Health Protection Act, which repealed regulations that require those seeking an abortion to undergo state-mandated counseling, a mandatory ultrasound and a 24-hour waiting period prior to the procedure, and The White-Miskell Act of 2014, which regulated the state’s estimated 100 commercial parasailing operators across the state of Florida and required operators to have up to $2 million in liability coverage.
Jessica received her B.S. in Communications from Florida International University and her M.A. in Public Management with a concentration in Public Policy Evaluation from Johns Hopkins University.
Bryan is a career radio nerd. He started his radio career at 17, and fell in love with working in media. Over the course of his career, Bryan worked as a DJ and radio programmer. While on air, he’s covered multiple hurricanes - providing regular updates on forecasts and community services available to residents in the aftermath of those storms. He, along with his morning team, covered the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and the resulting Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. While working at a radio station in Charlottesville, VA, he also covered the “Unite the Right” rally, broadcasting important updates, and the resulting fallout in Charlottesville/Albemarle County.
His work as a programmer in Miami, FL came with huge marketing budgets, and the jobs in smaller cities came with much smaller budgets (if at all), but the expectations were always the same - build a big audience and marketable database, and create messaging for brands that will be well-received by that audience.
Bryan is an expert in copywriting; making sure the brand promise and benefit is clearly articulated to the consumer. His ability to brand and position companies comes from his understanding of people, and how they live their lives.
As anyone that works in a music driven medium, he’s also a huge fan of music. So much so, that he is also a musician that likes creating themes for podcasting intro/outros, and his work in radio stations has given him the knowledge to produce, edit and create amazing sounding podcast presentations.
